A fun look back on our Mentorship program in 2015
Earlier this year Cup of Cool Water decided to transform the Job Training course into a Mentorship Program. It was a big experiment. Now, as the year is coming to an end, here are a few highlights:
24 weeks of Mentorship in 2015 (we took the summer off)
17 total Mentees
2 have completed all 3 sessions this year
10 have secured housing, 3 have obtained work, 3 have signed up for college, and one youth credits his growth through the Mentorship program helping him avoid jail.
Over 100 hours of volunteer time by mentees and growing
Some quotes from youth as they reflected on their mentorship time so far:
“Volunteer time kept me from bad habits.”
“The teamwork and conflict resolution has helped me in other life situations and allowed me to help other people as well.”
“Chatting with others gave me different perspectives.”
In January a new round of Mentorship courses will start. This has been an encouraging and fun first year of Mentorship. We could not have done it without the support of Dutch Bros coffee and Fleet Feet athletic store and all the volunteers who have donated their time, money and energy to this endeavor.
